The real reason you’re drowning in work – this may ruffle some feathers

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

I’ve been working with entrepreneurs and business owners for over 15 years and whilst they all have different businesses and come from a variety of backgrounds, every single one of them who say they are downing in work or missing deadlines all have the same in common…

They are focusing on things they shouldn’t be doing.

I’ll see a CEO with 15 employees and growing, respond to irrelevant emails, spend hours researching their own flights (which they end up not booking until the price has more than doubled), spend hours in excel trying to do the last 6 months of expenses and try and book their own meetings in (only to realise they have double or triple booked).

If you can relate to some or all of these things, ask yourself these 2 questions:

1. Has everything I have done this week, been things that only I can do?

2. Has everything I have done this week, been things that directly help me reach my business goal?

If the answer is no, it might be time to take a look at all the tasks you have on your to-do list.

1. How many of these things can be given to someone else?

2. What could be deleted or parked?

3. What real work are you procrastinating?

Often the things we want to do the least, are the things we need to do the MOST. So we put them off by focusing on things other people could be doing.

How much time would you have each week, if you passed these time-wasting tasks to someone else?

The good news is that it doesn’t always need to be this way. You can have a business, with people delivering work for you, while you focus on what you need to.
